GANIT SAHEJ HAIN

A grassroots version of qualitative aptitude development programmes to build upon the analytical reflexes of children.

Programme Beneficiaries

CHILDREN DISINTERESTED OR SCARED OF MATHEMATICS

Challenge

The problems with mathematical understanding among children emanate from the teaching techniques employed in the early stages. Unclear concepts and unfilled gaps in the learning methodology can leave the pupil confused and reflect on the results of the examinations he takes. Low scores easily discourages a student from trying hard to understand the subject, as a result students grow up with an unclear foundation of mathematics both as a subject and a concept.

SCHOOLS IN BOTH URBAN AND RURAL ZONES

Resolution

We have cooperated with schools to device innovative ways to communicate the concepts of mathematics in order to harbour a culture for likeability of mathematics. We use creative constructs like- daily objects, tested and true yet innovative methods and student-aptitude based learning processes. The programme also includes sharpening the aptitude of students so that they are not only equipped to better understand mathematics, but can address aptitude-based problems better.

STUDENTS FOUND INCOHERENT WITH THEIR SUPPOSED ACADEMIC LEVELS

Impact

The programme has understandably increased conceptual understanding of students it has taken in its stride. Children involved with this programme have found mathematics more enticing than before and have lost their fears for the subject. The programme has also helped build cognizance of the students through a bottom-up approach, and has lifted children to their respective levels of academics (calculated on the basis of their age and capability of understanding).
