A humungous problem manifest in the communities that we cater to is the incongruity and divide existing between males and females. Most households in the rural demography discount the educational liberties of their feminine counterpart. The lack of women mobilization in workplaces furthers the same ideologies. Women in rural households are restricted to household chores, this also stagnates the growth and education of girl children in those areas. The plight of adolescent girl children is even more axial since they go through complex psychobiological changes and are more prone to differential treatment than ever, and they are also vulnerable to social malpractices as early marriages. This is also a period when most formative ideas about the structures of their lives are formed.
Women deserve to be seen in the same skin as men, this is true for any demography. In order to uplift their status in difference prone zones we have undertaken the Adolescent Girl Child Programme. Under the programme, adolescent girl children are given special emphasis. Both the girl child and her respective community and family is counselled about their position in the social strata. Their responsibilities, rights and liberties are highlighted. Participation in community activity is promoted. The girl child is also given specific vocational training for her to be independent of society induced pressures and psychological counselling on the lines of confidence in themselves, best practices at workplaces and safety is imparted. We have also upped a step by providing them employment so that the question and assertion of whether they want to marry are left to themselves.
The programme has facilitated a multitude of reforms in the girl child sector in our impact zones. Adolescent girl children are actively employed and counselled and the rate of school-going girls in those areas have shown a drastic increase after the commencement of the programme. The communities have also grown more receptive to the idea of the female child undergoing educational training. This stands has laid the foundation for a gender oriented status quo and establishment of equal opportunities.
